We made a deal. I ordered and paid for take out Chinese food (for 4 hungry teenage boys) and they agreed to let me bring out the camera after lunch. My request was 'no smiles'. Then the dog showed up which made it very difficult.

my 'lights around the arbor' project

I spent the better part of the weekend hanging these light around the arbor. One every 22 inches, I got it spaced exactly so. The glow at night is fantastic, my new favorite space to sit and relax.

I put these freshly washed summer fruits on a pretty platter, went outside. Took a photo or two and ate the whole thing before the kids got home. It was wonderful!

zongzi for the duanwu festival

when we left the Indonesian restaurant on Saturday, Fred noticed these string bundled, trianglular shaped treats at the counter. I was too full to think about more food, but he insisted I go back and buy some for still lifes. Just $2. each, I told the girl I wanted three. She explained that these were a special treat for the Duanwu Festival celebration the next day, and that I would really like them. Just heat them in the microwave she told me. I never planned to eat them, but after I did I wished I'd bought more. Now I must wait until next year.

On the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese calendar (June 8th this year) the dragon boat festival commemorates the death of the great poet Qu Yuan, 340 BC). These treats are savory, filled with rice and red bean, pork and mushrooms.

I had to trim back some bushes today so the A/C guy could get to the unit. These dogwoods were pulled from my scrap pile and found their way into a vase.

we spend the better part of Monday evening moving furniture. The hardwood for the family room floors, (that I'd paid for in March) had finally arrived--much to my relief.

At 8am I go outside to move my car from the driveway, and find the floor installers truck has already arrived, the 3 young workers having their morning coffee.

Around 8:30am, I'm upstairs working when I hear doors opening and closing. The garage door, up and down, the back door, the front. I go down to investigate and am greeted with. "Where's the wood?" All I can do is shrug, I assumed they were bringing it.

Oh boy! Fortunately the guy with the wood arrived around 9:00.

Sumo has been coughing a lot this week, and I've been terribly worried. He never coughed anything up and no one else witness his coughing. I got smart and used my little Leica point and shoot with the video option and took a video clip of his latest fit this morning.

Then I called the vet, and arrived 10 minutes later. My vet watched the video clip, examined the cat and gave the diagnosis. Hairball. Whew, now we have a new medicine and everyone is happy! Sumo is resting.
